One of the orthodontic treatments on offer at Dentists Porthmadog is Invisalign. This involves wearing a series of clear and removable aligners which work to straighten your teeth over a period of time. With Invisalign, you won’t be dealing with any brackets, wires, or other restrictions you might find with metal braces.
What do the Invisalign retainers look like and what are they made from?
Invisalign retainers are made from clear, flexible thermoplastic named SmartTrack. This is patented by the company and was designed especially for this use.
How does Invisalign straighten teeth?
Your dentist will construct a treatment plan for your teeth specifically. This will map out the movement of your teeth to a smile you can be proud of. Your aligners will then be designed so they created the right amount of force in certain areas at the right time based on this bespoke plan. We will continue to monitor your progress throughout the treatment, ensuring all aligners fit and are working appropriately.
Does Invisalign restrict what you can eat?
As you can remove the Invisalign aligners from your mouth at any time, you can actually eat whatever you want. There is a long list of foods which you cannot eat with regular metal braces, so this is a great benefit!
What are the other benefits of choosing Invisalign?
First of all, Invisalign retainers are clear and almost invisible – people won’t realise you are wearing them! They are removable, so you will be able to take them out for your oral health routine; to clean your teeth, eat and drink, and for occasions where you don’t want to wear them. They also won’t irritate your mouth as traditional metal braces might do.
The SmartTrack plastic the retainers are made from is designed to be comfortable in the mouth. They are also trimmed to fit your gum line for added comfort and improved appearance.
What is the best way to clean my aligners?
The best way to go about cleaning your aligners is by brushing them and rinsing them in clean lukewarm water. Follow this by using special cleaning tablets or using the Invisalign cleaning crystals.
You will need to brush your teeth once you have finished eating before putting your aligners back in. This is to make sure no food is left trapped, preventing staining and keeping good oral hygiene.
What should I do if I have broken or lost one of my aligners?
If you end up breaking or losing one of your aligners then call us as soon as possible. Your dentist will work with you to make sure you keep on track with your plan. This might mean wearing the previous aligner whilst you order a replacement or moving onto the next set of aligners.
